How to Get a Credit Card
Wednesday, November 9th, 2011As part of your financial freedom, you are looking forward to the time you have your credit card. The buy now, pay later option is just too hard to pass. Whether for an emergency or for luxury, you will need a credit card.

Just in case you are wondering how to get a credit card, first time credit card applicants need to establish a credit history.
To establish your credit history, you may try the following:
- You may get a cash card or a prepaid card as your first card.
As a prepaid / cash card, you need to put funds in your card before you purchase. Kind of like having bills in your wallet. You can only spend what you have in your card.
- Department store or gas credit card.
It is relatively easy for these companies to approve you, whether young or adult, for these types of credit. You still have to understand there terms and conditions before applying for such credit card.
- Savings or checking bank account
Banks issue credit cards especially for valued clients or for client who have been there for a while. Bank’s existing clients have high credit card approvals. You can ask a bank representative for instructions on how to apply for your credit card or go to the bank’s website.
When applying for your first credit card, make note of the interest rates. There are upside and downside to having credit cards.
College students, especially if currently enrolled, have the highest credit card approval but also have the worst deals. Most college credit cards have high interest rates and hidden charges. Just because the credit card has a student title in it, does not mean you are not entitled to charges.
I suggest you look for low interest rate credit cards, that has no or minimal annual fee and may or may not have “student” titled to it. For starters, try to stick to one card.
There are lots of folks that dived into credit card acquisition when their finances were quite poor and they ended up messing up their credit rating by defaulting in repayment. This kind of scenario will definitely affect your second shot at credit card acquisition because your bad credit history will then become an issue.
